2/5x-1/3x=4

Assuming it's:

(2/5)x - (1/3)x = 4
(6/15)x - (5/15)x = 4
((6-5)/15)x = 4
(1/15)x = 4
x = 60

If, instead, it's

2/(5x) - 1/(3x) = 4
6/15 - 5/15 = 4x
1/15 = 4x
x = 1/60

Go for common denominators: 6x/15 - 5x/15 = 4, so 1x/15 = 4. Then multiply both sides by 15 and x = 60. Check: 2/5 x 60 - 1/3 x 60 = 24 - 20 = 4. (I assume by 2/5x you mean two fifths times x)

2/5x-1/3x=4
multiply 2/5x with 3 and 1/3x with 5 and you will have 6-5/15x=4 multiply 4 with 15x
1=60x
x=1/60

I assume you are solving for "x"

1. Combine the x's by finding the least common multiple.
2/5=6/15 and 1/3=5/15 so you are really looking at 6/15 minus 5/15. 6/15 minus 5/15= 1/15.

2. Remember that the 1/15 we are talking about is still 1/15x. So now the equation is 1/15x=4.

3. You need to get x to be 1x insted of 1/15x, so to do that you multiply both sides of the equation by 15.

4. 1/15 times 15 = 1, which is 1x.

5. 4 times 15 = 60, which is the left side of the equation.

6. That makes the final answer: X=60

If you have any questions you can post them as additional details and i would be happy to answer them.

If this problem is (2/5)x -(1/3)x =4, then we proceed as follows:
15 times (2/5)x -15 times(1/3)x = 4 times 15
6x -5x =60
x =60
If, on the other hand you meant your problem to be
2/(5x) -1/(3x)=4, then
6/(15x) -5/(15x) =4
1/(15x)=4
1=60x
x=1/60
I'm not saying this problem has two answers. I'm saying if I knew what you meant I could give you the one correct answer. I leave it to you to decide which one is the correct problem

you need to find the decimal answer of 2/5 and 1/3..then you cancel one of them and add to 4. then for example say you use 1/3 and then your problem looks like this ... 2/5x=4+1/3x then you sub1/3x from 2/5x and then you get x by itself then you have to solve for x then you do it the other way for the other x get it? if not? my user name is elmira_989

2/5x - 1/3x = 4
(2(3)x - 1(5)x)/15 = 4
6x - 5x = 60
x = 60
