His programs in his state focused on helping the uninsured GET insured USING the private system we have here in America and not turning to a national healthcare non-solution.

He said doing so was cheaper then simply paying hospitals and it encouraged responsibility.

Are there any other great ideas like this kicking around amongst conservatives?

Libs, if all youre going to come with is national healthcare is great, we wanna be just like europe, etc etc. Save it. I already know democrats have NO good ideas for healthcare.

Lamp>I suppose thats why canadians and europeans come here for operations they dont have to wait for in "advanced" health care systems? You are a victim of propaganda and know nothing.

Aza>I dont consider moving to a european or canadian model good in any way. The quality of care stinks over there and you have to wait in line. Thats BAD. I want discussion on how we can help folks and NOT become europe or having their kind of taxes. No thanks.

Avail>Obamas plan is the same as all libs. Universal healthcare through basically medicaid. Socialized medicine inst the answer, its the admission of defeat. Perhaps while youre surfing, you can look up and see what Romney HAS DONE in real life as opposed to Obamas pipe dreams he will never do.

Jeff>What you dont seem to realize is the unisured is most of the reason for the rising health care costs. Solve that, and you go a long way to solving rising healthcare costs. Hospitals are closing their doors because the uninsured are coming in and not paying.

Well don't forget that his plan subsidized health insurance for poor people, which is questionably "conservative" (he didn't give them "tax breaks").

Nevertheless, that solution does little to solve the true problem with health care costs in this country. Avoiding the emergency room is a decent idea and may save some money. However, the major problem with our private system is with the huge administrative overhead involved that doesn't exist in countries with universal care. That cannot be solved without some major changes.

I think the Massachusetts plan will either become unaffordable to that state at some point or people will just end up buying watered-down coverage that does little to help them out.

You may have a point , I have not followed Romney too much after I heard of the Investments in Sudan Him ,hillary ,and obama made some kind of investment there to make money off the Companies who did business with Sudan China Petroleum & Chemical, or Sinopec, which also has been linked to Sudan by the activists trying to end the killing in Darfur......But I guess it is still better than Bill and Hillary investing in comapnies in China which is why Bill started this mass trading with China on the level it is today , the trade was open for the Clintons ,and others to make money , are these not the same ones who say they can do what is best for America ?

But despite all that Romney does have a better plan for health Care I will give him that , I do not want universal care , I do not go to doctors so why should I pay for others , to include all of the hollywood junkies who need rehab , and why should my money pay for anyones rehab , plastic surgery ,etc. not counting the fact that all medical staff would possibly become federal employees and I know of no doctor will give up their pay for federal pay there would be a severe shortage of medical staff.

When you say Democrats have "NO good ideas for healthcare [sic]" you're really just saying they have no ideas you agree with. For what it's worth, I'll give you my opinion on his plan, although I'm not a Republican or a Democrat.

If Romney's proposal for Massachusetts is what you're referring to, it's better than the present system, but not good enough. The profit motive does not belong in health care. A single-payer universal health care system is best. Here's a link that discusses it:

http://www.pnhp.org/facts/singlepayer_faq.php#socialized

A quick summary: you can have universal health care paid for by tax dollars and, once the fact that you're not paying exorbitant insurance premiums is taken into account, most people will actually save money.

The way you describe his program is exactly what Dems are suggesting too.
Nobody has advocated nationalizing health care - merely universal health insurance. Most of Europe has either predominantly private health systems or at least hybrid ones.
While I have not studied the details of the Romney solution in Mass or what he is proposing now - it seems he is in favour of a similar plan to both Clinton and Obama. And so yes - at first glance I would support it too.

Sounds like Obama's healthcare plan! Sounds like Romney read it, you should to!

Except for Obama's plan provides for restructuring the welfare socialist version of healthcare to save Americans money on it, by doing away with it completely and putting them on a program covered by private insurance carriers.

Myabe you should look at Romney's campaign page, and see if his plan is detailed, rather than just being a bunch of hoopla double-talk.

"I already know democrats have NO good ideas for healthcare."

Then, unlike all other modern countries on the planet, you haven't been listening. And that's why American Health care is obsolete. It's a dinosaur. The second ice-age is coming... and Republicans all have brains the size of walnuts.

Edit:

Canadians would rarely go to the U.S. for treatment, unless it was en elective procedure, (non-emergent) and they wanted it done...yesterday. If that's the case and they've got the money, they might opt for that. But that would be one case in 100,000. The vast majority of Canadians have no problem with waiting a reasonable period for non-critical surgical procedures, provided there's alternative treatment that will keep them comfortable.

Emergent cases are handled as expeditiously as they are the US.

And keep in mind, the US has line-ups too. They're shorter, but that's because people who should be in them are at home suffering or dying because they can't afford care.
