I mean we fear what we don't know, what we don't understand...

If you claim to know God, then why would you fear Him?

But if you claim to NOT know God and just believe in Him, then you'd be Agnostic and nothing else.

But to say that you know God AND that you fear him is just confusing to me...

kind of the same way as some people loving their Moms or Dads but fearing them.
But, I can understand where you are coming from. If you believe in God, then there is nothing for you to fear of Him. He is the last person you should fear. If you have done bad and hurt people all of your life and try to ruin people's lives just for the sake of hurting just to hurt, then, you never had Him in your life and maybe then you have something to fear. Like fear of the unexpected when it is your time to go. This is for rapists, child molesters/murderers, killers, serial killers......these people have something to fear in my opinion.

One must fear His power, His awesomeness, His wrath but this is mostly an Old Testament teaching for if we stay under His Love by accepting and living under the completed works of the Christ we have nothing to fear from God. Once covered in the Blood of the Lamb the sacrifice has been made, the price paid the fear removed and left is the freedom of Christ, the freedom of love.

First thing's first. If you saw God, his glory would wreck your body (not your soul, however, which is what a lot of people get confused). Also, the reason why we love, but fear God would be the same reason why we might feel that way with our parents: We love them, be we don't want to make them agnry or no icecream for us :(.
Not that God would take away your icecream, He doesn't work like that, but, if you're bad all your life, and you think that you are BETTER than Christ, He can send you to Hell when you die.
It's always a way to keep you arrogance level down, knowing this.

This is just one girl's opinion. :)

For the unbeliever, the phobia of God is the phobia of the judgment of God and eternal dying, that is eternal separation from God (Luke 12:5; Hebrews 10:31). For the believer, the phobia of God is something a lot diverse. The believer's concern is reverence of God. Hebrews 12:28-29 is a sturdy description of this: “consequently, considering we are receiving a kingdom that can not be shaken, enable us to be grateful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ’God is a ingesting fireplace.’” This reverence and awe is precisely what the phobia of God ability for Christians. that's the motivating element for us to provide as much as the writer of the Universe.

Fear His wrath, seek His love. Same attitude a child has to a parent, really. Nothing complicated. That's why we call Him God the Father.

It's a fear of displeasing him. Incidentally, in Psalms 111:10 it says that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and those that fear him have good insight!

You fear his wrath when you did something terribly wrong yet you still love him and respect him at the same time. It's the same thing with your parents when you know you messed up and are in trouble you fear what they will do to you in terms of how they will punish you but you still love and respect them at the same time.
