The WWF Attitude Era was where the blurring of the line between face and heel began. Stone Cold, The Rock, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Kane and the Undertaker were really the driving force for it. When you think of these wrestlers you can plainly see that no matter whether they are technically face or heel there character stays the same. Before the Attitude Era face and heel were both clearly defined, you would never see a face doing something underhanded or controversial. After the Attitude Era a face could be a bad a**, ie Stone Cold and DX. The Attitude Era forever changed how wrestler's characters were perceived and developed.
Thanks for a great question.

In my words:
The 'Attitude Era' was the WWF's way of using shock value to attract an audience during it's most competitive time. Although the Philadelphia-based promotion Extreme Championship Wrestling has been credited with creating the "Attitude Era", it reached the masses by way of the World Wrestling Federation. Many observers believe that the "Attitude Era" was was born with this one quote from the KOTR ppv from 1997:
"You talk about your psalms, and your John 3:16...Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ***!"
yes, I am a Cena fan. Yes, I do own a spinner belt.

Simply put, the Attitude Era was the WWF at it's finest. Every aspect of the product was entertaining (promos, matches, gimmicks, etc.) and to an extent, believeable. However, partial credit should be awarded to WCW, because had they not been a dominating empire during that time, there would not have been an Attitude Era.

Probably one of the greatest eras in wrestling. The matches, promos, storylines, feuds, and PPVs were very exciting and caught your attention and the wrestling superstars were very interesting in there own way(Example The Rock,Chris Jericho,Triple H,Undertaker,Kane,Mankind...etc). They didnt have any superstars that made us yawn like The Miz,Nunzio,Kevin Thorn,Carlito,The Great Khali ...Etc the point im trying to make is it was VERY Entertaining and had fans on the edge of their seats. This may be longer than a paragraph but its the best way i like to describe it

The Attitude Era was a time where wrestling became more explicit. DX saying suck it, Austin kicking his bosses *** and all that. It became more edgier and hip and it was I don't care. Rules what rules we break em.
