I live in LA County and need a place to stay. I have $8 in my savings account. I go back to work in September as a Substitute Teacher and Aide. I get paid once a month. After the bills and food, I have no $ left for rent. Some of my single friends have houses but don't want roommates. I don't have the $500-$600 a month to spare for rent anyway. I have applied for summer and night jobs. No call backs yet. Where can I go live until I get on my feet? What about a women's shelter? What agencies can help? Please let me know.

There is a lot of help out there, just go to your local DHS ( the place where you would apply for food stamps ) they have some many different state funded programs out there other than just food stamps and medical, A friend of mine went there and they help him with his first months rent and deposit to get in to a place and they also paid off an old electric bill that he had. Just go there and they should have something inside the building that tells you about everything that they offer.

What part of L.A. do you live in? In south central their are great places yuo can go to because their are so many homeless. I don't think a shelter will do what you can do is put and ad and say you need a room to stay. I know someone that used to rent a room in east L.A. she knew just were to go all the time if you want e-mail me and I'll ask her then give you the info.

Try contacting social services in your area, they may have some ideas and or help for you. There are women's centers all over. Seeing as you have access to the Internet look some of these things up. Another place you could ask for help is the Salvation army they could maybe give you some assistance. You don't sound like you want a hand out but a hand up....good luck to you. :)

Start waitressing .
You get tips / cash daily and then you can stay wherever you have been staying the last several months .
And if Sub Teacher does not make the $$$ , you should maybe switch or at least keep up the waitressing until you figure out a financially viable career .

I don't know why you couldn't live in a shelter. Keep your money in a bank though where it's safe. I also say you need different "friends" if they have houses but won't let you stay with them.
