Pools are fine while pregnant.
Hot tubs are bad and can raise your body temperature to dangerous levels for the baby. You should avoid going in them while pregnant.

This is a question that I asked my OBGYN, because it seemed that the baby was more relaxed when I was in the pool. For reasons that would not be appropiate to speak of here, I find it more comfortable with certain activities when I am in the pool. My Doc assured me that it was fine. A warm bath is fine too. He did caution me against any type of water propelled by jets in my last trimester including hot tubs. He did not say anything about spontaneous abortion, but he did say that it could cause cramping, discomfort and on some rare occasions pre term labor

For a normal pregnancy there is no problem if you go in the pool, but the heat in a hot tub is bad for the baby.

Pool, yes. Hot tubs, no. There is a warning on most hot tubs for pregnant woman, because it is dangerous because of the heat.

you should stay out of the hot tub the whole time you're pregnant. it raises your body temperature, which is bad for your baby. it's OK to swim in a pool (as long as the water's not too cold) up until your water breaks. once your water breaks, though, you risk infection. and you should be heading to the hospital at that point, anyway.

I'd say once the belly starts poppin out, that means you should stay out, of the tubs and pools and ice rinks and anywhere else where you might fall. Play it safe, it's just several months and it'll keep the baby from losing its life or causing serious injury to both you and the baby.

Pools are alright up until you pop, hot tubs are dangerous, they raise your body temperature and can cause a spontanous abortion within your body.
Stay away from the hot tub.

No--in fact, some women who use water births are in a hot tub while delivering! The thing to avoid is having water thrusted into the vagina. If you are going to get into a pool or hot tub-don't jump in, simply walk into it. Also, no sex under water (that will cause water to enter the vagina). Otherwise, it is perfectly safe and also helps take the weight off of your muscles and joints while you are in the water. You should also AVOID a HOT hot tub-one that is warm is ok-you don't want to raise your body temperature. (especially in your first trimester)
