Forcing is never something good; but what can be done is "disguise", or hide some vegetables which are rich in essential vitamins in the middle of other food, by mixing them altogether so that your child won't make faces and at the same time will have everything she needs to grow up healthy.

Of course they did, there were children starving in . That was the standard operating procedure when I was a kid.
My father went even further. You only HAD to eat the foods he liked. If HE didn't like something, you didn't have to EITHER. (*eyeroll*).
My only requirement with my daughter was that she take a taste. If she didn't like it, she didn't have to eat it. I always made sure there were things she had previously liked available, but I didn't cook special for her.
The only problem is, frequently kids LOVE peas this week, but HATE them next week. Or will eat chicken last week, but it makes them sick this week. I used to let her go hungry, too. (*shrug*) I figure it wouldn't hurt her to pass up a meal if she hated it that much.

My parents made me finish all of my food when I was a kid and there are certain foods I still won't touch to this day as a result of it. I actually liked cooked spinach for a while - until I was forced to choke it down. I always hated sweet potatoes but was made to eat them anyway... I won't force my son to eat anything. I'd like him to try new things, but if he won't try it or doesn't like it I won't make him eat it, nor will I make him clean his plate off.

I ate everything on my plate all the time. I had 5 older brothers, so when the food was passed to me, there wasn't a lot left.

Yes - they made me eat everything. I had a huge dislike for egg yolk when I was younger - I threw it in the bin and covered it with a piece of paper...my dad knew what I did (somehow) - he fished it out, heated it up again (to kill off the germs) and made me eat it. Last time I threw any food away again.

When I was little they would, saying no dessert,
but now they could care less, and
I just eat what I like, because I get to
take the proportions that I see fit for myself.

My family considered it a sin if you didnt clean your plate. I remember visiting a friend's house and they said I didnt have to finish the dinner. I loved that.

Mine were obsessed with me eating EVERYTHING on my plate, it's made me obsessed with food now. Parents lay off your kids, I let mine eat whatever they want to
