You really should buy a manual, unless the owners manual is really good and has pictures. You may also wish to invest in a filter wrench, the cup type works well on a long extension. Without the wrench you will probably need to pull the fairings off to access the filter without getting burned.
Do NOT use automotive oil in the engine! Regular auto oil that is rated energy conserving has friction modifiers that can cause the clutch to slip. The only auto oil I know of that is safe is Castrol GTX 20-50, it is not rated energy conserving. The correct oil is cheaper than a clutch kit.

substitute the oil and clear out everybody thousand miles and the oil will continuously be stable and doing its job. Yama-lube is barely a Yamaha field, Yamaha have not got even an oil refinery. it is what I call 'sucker advertising'. I have been given approximately 8 undemanding manufacturers of oil examined to be utilized in racing automobiles a honest collectively as lower back and the suitable oil from those outcomes become Valvoline XLD, it out performed even some oil special as 'racing engine oil'. each bike I easily have had because of the fact that I easily have used Valvoline XLD and in no way had a project with it, even in a 1200cc rapid-blown V4 Honda, it began existence as a one thousand VFR Honda yet lower back then each little thing I owned ended up racing. Strayed from the factor, Yama-lube is purely an overpriced field of oil, which the interior reach Yamaha save thinks must be Castrol yet he's no longer particular.

Get a shop manual for your bike. I found some on ebay for less than $10 in PDF format.
Basically you have to remove the fairings from your bike. Remove the filter using a special wrence. Drain oil, refill, and install new filter. Rub a little oil on the filter to create a good "seal". replace fairings and you're good to go!

So I don't have to re-type my answer,
Search for Questions:
How do I do an oil change on a yzf 600r?
Pay no attention to the motorcycle oil bit.
Quality, brand name, 4 stroke motor oil is fine.

remove left lower fairing, put drain pan underneath, remove drain plug, wait till it's all drained, remove oil filter, rub some fresh oil on seal of new oil filter and install and torque to 7ft/lbs(K&N oil filters have hex nut on the end), put drain plug w/ new crush washer on at 18ft/lbs torque, put in 3.8 quarts Castrol GTX10w-40, put left lower fairing back on, put oil from drain pan into empty oil bottle/s and take them back to the store.
The End
