Having lived there (in Brown's Bay, Auckland) as a little kid, 1978-80, I can honestly say my long memories are almost universally AWESOME and I definitely want to return with my family some day.
New Zealanders strike me as being less concerned with material wealth and much more concerned about the environment and well-being of those around them, and they certainly are the outdoorsy, vigorous type. These are admirable qualities, and the indigenous Maoris are very cool.

Believe it or not, I've only known one person from New Zealand. She was here on a work visa and taking care of the elderly lady across the street from me. Every once in a while her sister would come to visit for a couple weeks and the two of them would sit out on the front porch and sing. If all New Zealanders are like she is, I love 'em!

I don't actually know anyone from / in New Zealand. I'm going to guess that they are just like people everywhere, and I'd like some of them and not like others of them.
I can say, based on the pictures, the country is amazingly beautiful!

after a joke someone told me, I keep thinking
SHEEP...
But I also know that Lord of the Rings was filmed there, so NZ has some really good surroundings and environment. Your rivers always look so clear!

I went there before. To Auckland and Rotorua or some place I can't spell. Anyway, the people in Auckland were very snobby. Me no likey.
My friend just had a very different experience. She liked it so much she moved there.
To each his own.

Good hardy Anglo-Saxon stock and they gave the Maori a clean deal, but kind of wimped out on their island possessions, like the Kerguelens, when they made them wildlife preserves accessible only to scientists. How's a born nation-builder like myself supposed to seize the Kerguelens and declare our independence if we're going to have to fight bird preservers?
