Start writing the paper and then write the thesis later. The thesis is essentially what your paper is about. You need to pick a side of the debate first don't you?

I'll pick one for you:

The many compelling arguments to ban abortion are more often than not born from relgious dogma; this is the debate that tackles "when does life begin?" As our country was founded on the prinicple of separation and church and state, it would be "unamerican" for legislation to ban abortion based on beliefs stemming from religious values and beliefs.

If you don't agree at least this will get you thinking on your way to your own thesis. Good luck!

Thesis For Abortion

What's your feeling about the topic? Should it or shouldn't it? Your thesis needs to say in one or two sentences what your paper is going to back up.

IMO: it should not be illegal. For starters, pregnancy could be a health risk for some women - either phyiscally or mentally, and I also think there's too many unwanted and often abused children in this world.

First you need to pick a position. Are you for the legalization of abortion? Then you can say, "Abortion should be legal because it gives the woman the right to choose."

If you say it should be illegal, then say, "Abortion should be illegal because it denies the baby right to life."

Your best bet is to research both "pro-choice" and "pro-life" resources, mainly the main ones, if you do not already have sources, if you are in that stage of writing.

I do not think it should be made a felony. This is way too harsh and I believe there are too many situations where a woman should have an abortion. However, in most cases I do not think abortion is the right answer, but making it a felony is too overboard for me.

Does life begin at conception, or at birth? If life begins at conception, abortion is premeditated murder. If life begins at birth, abortion is morally equivalent to liposuction. Pick one side or the other and argue when life begins.
