I just finished reading THE END a week ago.
The whole series seem to be weaved together so excellently.
Now, this question has been boggling my mind ever since i finished the bad beginning:

Is "A Series of Unfortunate Events" fictional? Or the story really occured here on earth??

and

Where is Lemony Snicket? Who is he really?
Why is he "still at large"? Like a criminal or something??

sorry about the multiple questions..
I'm just very curious...

It's all fictional. Lemony Snicket isn't even a real person. The real author is Daniel Handler, who I got to meet a few years ago. He acts as Lemony Snicket's "personal handler" or something like that, but he is actually Lemony Snicket and lives in San Francisco, CA.

Lemony Snicket was falsely accused of crimes he did not commit, and has been on the run. I think "The Unauthorized Autobiography" explains a little, but it's mostly full of random stuff.

Get the Unauthorized Biography of Lemony Snicket wherever you get books. It is one more book, not in the series, but probably shelved in the same space as the series books will be. I read the "bio" and I tell you as an English major and someone who's 33 I have decided it is all a very clever mirror job for whomever is writing these stories. There is a photo at the very back of this "bio" that has the look of a photo, but it is conveniently burned thru the middle so when you look at it it looks as tho you are seeing thru to the next page! Ingenious bit of printing that was!! I assume someone or many somebodies wanted to be ghost writers so they came up with this Snicket person as just the name for this insanity. And besides they were originally published in England weren't they? This is probably just a modern tall tale for young people to enjoy and wonder about. The author(s) want to keep the young children entertained and constantly guessing but many of the stories have implausible occurences as to be totally real- wouldn't you agree?

Lemony Snicket is just the author's pen name...his real name is Daniel Handler.

And, if you read the books, the Snickets are mentioned...and Lemony is mentioned at the end of The End.
