Examples: 1/2 divided by 3/4 =
1/2 x 4/3= (second fraction is reversed in order
to multiply). Cancel out any that will
cancel evenly. Here, it would be the 2 & 4.
becomes 1/1 x 2/3 =2/3 (multiply across the numerator and denominator).
For mixed numbers: 1 5/8 divided by 6 1/2 =
Change to regular fraction: 13/8 (or 8 x 1+5) divided by 13/2 (2x6+1), so you have 13/8 divided by 13/2 =
Becomes: 13/8 x 2/13 =(do cancellations)
(13's become 1; & 2 into 8=4), so you have
1/4 x 1/1 = 1/4 is the answer
Example 2: 1 5/8 divided by 5 9/27=
13/8 divided by 144/27 (or 27 x 5 + 9)
13/8 x 27/144 (multiply each across) =
13 x 27 =351 & 8 x144=1152 Fraction becomes 351/1152. Divide by the GREATEST COMMON FACTOR =9. You have 351/1152 divided by 9=39/128 (cannot be divided lower because numerator is odd number and denominator is even),

I must say you kids can't spell or multiply.
Reciprocal is the word you want.
1 x 2 = 2 not 3 as in Starte's answer. It would be 2/18 = 1/9
A fraction where the numerator is larger than the denominator is called improper not regular.
To divide mixed numbers change them to improper fractions first. Division of fractions is really the multiplication of reciprocals.
2 1/3 x 2/5
7/3 x 2/5 = 14/15

Divideing fractions is the same as mutiplying by the RESYPICAL of hte second number
Example:
1/2 divided by 3/9 is the same as 1/2 times 9/2.
Do you know how to turn a whole number into a fraction?(1=3/3)
OK, well EXAMPLE:
1 2/3 divided by 2 7/8 is
5/3 divided by 16/8 is the same as 5/3 times 8/16 or 5/3 times 1/2

Example: 1/2 divided by 4 1/2
Solve: 1/2 divided by whole number 4 times denominator 2, then add the numerator 1 to get 9/2; then rearrange the problem like this: 1/2 times 2/9 = 3/18 or 1/6.
