I'm looking to purchase a 36v Hammer Drill, but I can't decide on whether to make it a DeWalt or a Bosch.

Which is better?

The best tools you can get are either a Makita, Hitachi or Hilti.
I always use Makita but I do have a 24v Dewalt.
The dewalt is excellent.
I have spoken to a few mates recently and they reckon the Bosch is one of the finest battery drills they have, as the batteries last slightly longer.
The only thing I will say though about a 36V drill is the batteries do not last long - you are constantly charging them up.
24V is more than adequate for any application.
If you can afford a hilti - have a look - you can try them for free too.

I've used both brands over the years. Older Bosch tools were awesome and pretty damn hard to break. The new stuff is sorta iffy, but still better than DeWalt IMHO. I use a mix of both brands and have had more warranty issues with DeWalt than Bosch.

Being a little more topic-specific: at my shop I have a 5 year-old Bosch hammer drill that I mainly use for installing skate stoppers. The thing is still going strong after drilling a few thousand holes in concrete.

I had an 18v Bosch Cordless Drill for about 2 years. It performed well, but I got tired of it being weaker than the DeWalt that I would use when working with my Uncle. I paid almost 260 after tax for it. When I bought my DeWalt I got a Cordless Drill/Hammer drill/Driver and Cordless grinder for 299 essentially 150 a piece. The DeWalt has far surpassed everything my Bosch could do.

I would go with Bosch on every tool made.

If you want a deal on a 36V Bosch, call Stone Mountain Power Tools in Lilburn, Georgia. They have one that was ordered for a customer and he never picked it up. Bosch is expensive, that hammer drill with a listed retail usually sells between $600-700. A 24 V by Bosch, which works equally well, is about $100 cheaper.

This is subjective and I can't really prove an answer. I'd get Bosch.

They both cost about the same (Bosch slightly cheaper). But, the Bosch is close to 2 pounds lighter thanks to a slim battery design (you get two of these batteries, but they're smaller and last a little less per charge than the fat DeWalt). Both use top notch batteries for very long life, but the lighter Bosch is my choice

Bosch every time. I have two Dewalts I use at work, both have lousy torque settings. I can drive a 21/2 inch drywall screw into a 2x4 on the lowest setting. The detent springs that operate on the torque setting have both broken more than once. Finally the three speed setting is a waste of space, I use either one or three, never two. More often than not the switch sticks halfway as you try to change it and you have no speed at all.

I have a sneaking suspicion that people tend towards Dewalt because the "Pros" use them. Having seen some of the "Pros" at work this is no recommendation whatsoever.

Both are good, but I think DeWalt is better for battery operated.
I like some Bosch power tools.

DeWalt rules when it comes to power tools. They are the ones the rest copy, or try to.
It's expensive for a homeowner but you will not find better for comercial tools. I have 30+ cordless/corded tools by DeWalt. The only thing close is Makita.

NOTE: you can sometimes find tools cheaper on Ebay but be carefull the shipping and handling charges.

Now that most DeWalt products are MADE IN CHINA (I know it says Germany on them, however it does not say MADE IN ), they are very, very pricy for a Chinese product.
Check out Festool, the quality is fantastic, and they are genuinely Made in Germany for about the same price as you would pay for Dewalt and you know its the real thing.
