I vividly recall how extremely important the very first cable news channel was. Years went by, and then others appeared. But unbelievably enough, instead of competing against each other in a professional way with the most amount of important news from every corner of the world, they just repeat endlessly only four or five news pieces throughout the day and night. Of course with the insertion of the dumb news about the dumb celebrity getting into more trouble.

And needlessly to say the irresponsible, unprofessional, and maybe even unethical, manner of pinpointing only the bad in the political party opposing their views, thus leaving out all which could benefit the viewers in terms of true journalism.

This saddens me so much!

It's all becoming entertainment. We will not know what is going on very soon and the current regime prefers it that way.

The cable channels will buy into that because to them, it's all about the money and viewers.

You're right, it's sad.

Not that this really answers your question directly, but I think the basic problem with "news" in general is that most of the journalists try to go beyond reporting bare facts, and unwittingly find themselves where they simply do not know what they are talking about.

When I was in college, "Journalism" was the easiest major for someone who didn't mind writing a lot. So they have a degree in Journalism, and write about legal matters, and haven't a clue about the Law. Or they write about military matters, and know jack about the military. Hey, they don't have to, they're Journalists, right? Wrong. They're idiots and don't even know it.

For example, take the live reports coming out of Baghdad at the opening of the first Gulf War. They broadcast live from Baghdad at 2am, and "there are helicopters flying outside, but we don't know if they are American or Iraqi." Anyone with a little military experience would have considered whether Iraqi helicopters were equipped to fly at night, and been able to answer that question that never occurred to these world class Journalists. Examples abound in other areas like Law, or Science, but there is one area of Journalism that is held to a higher standard: Sportscasters don't get to make guesses and be wrong very often.

So, in conclusion, Journalists aren't necessarily liars. They are obviously idiots, though.

Well, i hate to say it, but the republican party is where the money is. So, it's not unlikely to expect that the major news outlets are bias. I refuse to turn to Fox news, (at this point i even believe that their weather forecast has a political, right wing agenda), and CNN is a bit better, but they loop all the same crap all day. Which is sickening considering i really don't care to much about Lohan, or Hilton. Most of my political reading i find in the free circulation. They have no one to answer to... except your local shoe store. but be weary, sometimes extremist can start a circulation too! lol

it seems like they're having to stretch for their stories, which is really wierd, considering how much real news happens in the world on a given day- but they spend all 24 hours talking about the same 5 ridiculous things (and they're not even accurate).

I really miss Dan Rather and his lies. News on TV is a joke unless you can see the video completely.

Fox news can now legally lie and not be sued for firing employees who will not comply. FOX news! we distort! then we lie!
