OK HERE GOES currently got compaq 07d0h motherboard and amd athlon 2200+xp chipset, and 512mb ddr ram am looking for dual core processor and new motherboard and somrthing that will take 2048mb ram and two 500 gig hdd any suggestions will be greatly appreciated money is sort of limited so will be using sound and graphics card from this pc if you can reccomend anything it would be great

Don't worry about warranties, they're all a sham.

I highly doubt you can use the graphics from your XP+ PC as the card is probably AGP, where all new motherboards have PCI-e slots.

The motherboard has an onboard video chipset that should tide you over until you can get some more cash, or an Nvidia 7600GT is only $75.

You can also overclock the 3600+ to about 2.4ghz on the stock cooler with that motherboard.

A good alternative from Intel would be the E2160 Core2 Duo based processor on an ASUS P5L-MX board that is based on Intel's 945GC chipset. It has the GMA 950 graphics that share up to 224mb RAM.

I'd call your computer company and ask them if your computer is upgradable. Try and see if they'll do it for you. If you must do it manually, it'll void your warranty.
