Typed papers are in either PICA type (10 spaces per inch or 85 spaces widthwise), centered at space 42; or ELITE (12 spaces per inch or 102 spaces widthwise) centered at space 51. Also, do NOT use any fancy, script-style fonts (makes it too hard to read. The block style fonts--like this one--are best.
I didn't have a computer when I was in college and had to use an electric typewriter. The only reason I got by with a script type was because that was all my typewriter had. I did typing for other students as well, so by the time I graduated, every professor on campus knew who had done the typing.

When you are "righting" your paper....you should use 10 or 12.

If you are righting a paper, you are correcting it or putting it on the level. If you are writing a paper, try using 12 point. It's pretty standad.
