Mottled or spotted. A pied cockatiel, for example, isn't one color. It's feathers alternate one color after the other (like grey, yellow, grey, yellow, etc.) to give it a mottled appearance.

Pied generally means coloured black and white, although it is sometimes extended to mean multi-coloured.
