It's just the airport code the International Air Transport Association (IATA) assigned the airport and is not because there is an "o" and the end of San Francisco. There is no "X" at the end of Los Angeles but it's called LAX. New Orleans's airport code is MSY.
It's just the code that the IATA assigns the airport in SF.
