Salt..... that works for snails and slugs, not ants. If you do not want to use chemicals to get rid of them, you can use black pepper. Cheap, dollar store ground black pepper will deter ants from anywhere. Safe for pets, kids, but beware ...... it may cause you to have a sneeze fest!

I've never heard of using salt, but I've heard that filling a bowl with beer and setting it out there will attract and then kill ants. Once they're gone you can plant lavender or rosemary around which will help repel them.

bad idea if the deck is wood. if you don't like chemical sprays try putting a jar of water on the deck. sugar the rim of the jar. the ants will be attracted to the sugar and go into the water.

Hmmm, this reminds me of a boy that discovered a way to safely get rid of ants (without killing them, just leading them in a different direction) too bad i cant remember what it was...sorry, i know im no help.

See if you can't follow the ants to their living quarters and then pour boiling water all over it, down the hole, etc. Works like a charm.

use coffee grinds it works the best with out killing the ants. pour them all around your deck.
