This is sad news indeed. In fact, I just asked a question last week (one which you received the Best Answer to by the way) pretaining the greatest GM in NHL history. R.I.P. Sam Pollock.

As we speak, Mr. Pollock has just outsmarted God, trading Boom-Boom and John Ferguson Sr. for three future first round draft picks.

Smartest hockey executive in history. Knew the rules better than the people who wrote them, and knew talent.

Little known fact: Pollock once made a trade for a first round draft choice well in advance of its arrival date of 1979. If the circumstances hadn't changed because of the NHL-WHA merger, Pollock and the Canadiens would have been able to draft ... Wayne Gretzky. You can start to rewrite hockey history on that premise.

Mr. Pollock was so esteemed that some of us in Philly are saddened by his passing.
