i carry three just to be safe. feels naked without it.

to know this, we might have to approximate the average age of a yapper, their line of work & where they live.
& to do that is hard, less i offend someone.
anyway i would guess 3.
i myself have all the 3 major credit cards, 1 store credit card, & 1 credit union card & with that i would be over the average.

I am personally allergic to credit cards, although I have a Macy's card. And two debit cards, but i usually just carry one and leave the other at home.

You will have to do the averaging yourself after the replies.
I carry 5, but use only 2. The others were mailed to me as pre-approved, no-membership-fee-on-year-one cards. I use these 3 sparingly and then won't renew when they begin to charge on Year 2.
I am happy with my 2 regular cards: Citibank Visa and my AMEX.

I'm afraid I might bring the average down... I don't have any credit cards. As in zip, zero, nada.
I'm a very impulsive buyer, and I'm afraid that if I do get a credit card, I'd bury myself in debt in less than a year. Would rather not take the chance. ^_^
Besides, I still think that cash is better.

I have 3 active credit cards used for emergencies and 1 debit card used on regular basis
plus loyalty/discount cards of Centerpoint and Magrudy's (Dubai's equivalent to Powerbooks)

I have 3 - 1 Master, 1 Visa, 1 debit card. I find it easy to use when shopping, dinning, and drinking... safer I guess.

3 major cc's - no debit card - i like my money staying in bank - no store credit cards - their interest rates are too high.
i carry all three, never know i might want to buy a big ticket item:)
