Someone answered, "Maybe they trust their kids", but I dont think that they should "trust" their kids online or with a computer...because no matter how good or obeying the kid may be..they are usually very trusting too..theyre kids..and they are ppl online that want to gain your childs trust too and not for good reasons..also parents may think they kid is ready for a computer or ready to have some privacy online..but THEY ARE STILL KIDS!! I often wonder this myself..parents should supervise what their kids do while on the computer..another reason parents might get their kids expensive things like a computer..is because they want their kids to have what they didnt..but even though they should still watch over their kids..some parents get their kids computers for the computers to babysit their kids when they cant be with them and thats when alot of kids get in trouble..GOOD QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some parents don't even know if their kids are misusing the internet. They think that my little girl is to good to go on and tlk about sex and all that on some computer with so many strangers. But really they act innocent so their parents don't notice their little crime. I had a computer when I was 14 and my parents checked my computer 3 times a day to make sure I was safe. And not harrassing people on the internet

I think some parents as you say buy their kids because they don't know how to really show them love themselves and they figure if they get their kid what they want then they will know they love them. A lot of parents are ignorant to the things a kid can access on the internet because they are not up to date with the world. Before buying your kid a computer you as a parent have the responsibility of learning about all these things before turning your kid loose on the internet.

Don't assume that all the morons on here are kids, and don't assume that all the people claiming to be kids are really kids. Y/A is somewhat monitored and somewhat self-policed, but I've seen some astonishingly rotten things here. Just imagine what the kids are exposing themselves to out in the whole www. Computers should come with a disk that shows the graphic stuff, depraved, gross, and dangerous for parents only to shock them into believing that if they can imagine it...it's out there.

Parents should be taking advantage of Parental Controls. If they truly cared about their child's safety over the internet, then they should take the actions in preventing questions asked on websites like this like the ones you stated in your example. Parents should also learn about the risks of the internet and computers before buying one. I think it's more of an issue of information.

I'm sure the parents don't care what they do on line and trust them not to do things they know they are not supposed to. Like meeting people on line and then meeting in person, give out personal info. But not to many parents think they are going to go on line and harass people or make them mad by asking fake questions that they know will get people mad.

I think you just hit on the problem with ALL of today's youth. Lack of parental control, supervision, or participation.
Way to go on being a good mom.
But to answer your question, and it makes me sick, most parents just "give" them whatever they want to shut them up or to keep them busy sa as not to be bothered by them.
Sad....very sad.

some parents don't care, and some parents think that they are to good to be on the internet misbehaving. that is really wrong of them.

Because they're afraid their children will have a temper tantrum and hide in the shed so their parents will think they ran away.

Dayuummm, I feel bad for your son. (excuse my language)

My parents let me build my comp. Great learning experience, and it's cheaper than a pre assembled one with similar hardware. I use my comp correctly I assume. I think it's mostly because I'm the tech wizz of my family. Whenever one of our comps gets messed, up, I end up fixing it. I also install and assemble any new appliances that we buy. My parents just trust me.

Because they want to keep the kids occupied so they don't actually have to sit down with them and have a conversation. As long as the kids are quiet, the parents are happy.
