I work for a car dealership in the service department and the answer is no. Its actually unrealistic to suggest 3k, its usually suggested the first service is done at 5k. Take a look at your contract, as long as you don't try to bring it in several hundred of miles past, your warranty will be fine. Check with the service department at your dealership and be certain when it is recommended for your vehicle.

Not at all.
I wish you would have included the brand and model car you have because new cars today suggest a minimum of 5,000 mile oil changes.
In the handbook in your glove compartment their is a schedule of important maintenance items.
The dealer can't "scare you" into anything that's not according to the handbook schedule. It's best to get it changed early on the first change however. After the first oil and filter change follow the schedule closely.
If you don't drive many miles (5,000) or less within 6 months *at a minimum get it changed. If you pile on a lot of mileage quickly it's actually easier on the motor.
If you decide to change the oil initially and have a small 4 cylinder motor a full synthetic motor oil such as Mobil 1 will give you more than enough protection to drive the number of miles between changes your handbook suggests. The warranty is based on the handbook, not the dealers "scare tactics".

1. You do not HAVE to go to the dealer. They will way over-charge you (of course the manual says to go there anyway)
2. Missing by a couple hundred miles either way is no problem
3. So long as you can show it was done with receipts (either form an oil change place or from Wal-Mart where you bought the oil and filter and did it yourself) you are fulfilling the warranty's requirements.
The dealer cannot force you to go to the dealer only for this and threaten to withhold the warranty if you don't. It's illegal.

My warranty was like that and due to the reason I passed it by a 100 miles or so each month it did not cover my transmission warranty. They just wan an excuse not to pay you for the warranty so I recomend you do it a few miles before and not after.

Read your warranty/owner's manual carefully. It will probably say 7,500 miles for normal driving. Follow what that says and you'll keep your warranty alive. 3000 miles is a scam. In the very old days, neither cars nor motor oil were as sophisticated as they are today. 3000 is also a real waste of oil!

For the cost changing your vehicles oil and filter every three thousand miles or three months is cheap insurance. No a dealer does not have to do it to maintain the warranty. If you go over no big deal just try and keep it on schedule. The company I drive for has the oil and filter changed every 3000 miles on it's vehicles and most of our vehicles have well over 100,000 miles on them with hardly any breakdowns. One more thing have the tires rotated every other oil and filter change that will maximize tire life.

what does your proprietors instruction manual say? how lots are you prepared to spend? at the cheap area there is Wal-Mart oil (SL rated oil)which you would be able to get a 5 qt jug for variety of $5 and a Wal-Mart clear out for variety of $2, $7 for a oil substitute isn't undesirable. on the different hand cellular has a oil certain for 15000 miles (additionally SL rated) that runs approximately $30 for 5 qts. Fram makes a clear out, the XG variety this is certain for 7000 miles for $10. i exploit Wal-Mart man made oil $12 for 5qt jug, and the Fram XG clear out $10 and alter my oil each 7000 miles. i've got in no way had any issues and all 3 of my automobiles have over 150000 miles on them. on the different-hand, I easily have acquaintances in Germany the place oil expenses are actual high priced and that they alter their oil as quickly as a three hundred and sixty 5 days wish this permits.

There is plenty of lee way on the miles to maintain warrantee.
3,000 miles is recommended if you do a lot of city driving. If you drive mostly on the open road, then you can go as long as 5,000-6,000 miles without any harm.

NO. If you read your manual, it recomends changing the oil every 5000 miles. 3000 miles is a scam, a way to make more money.
