How much should it cost for me to get my front brakes done, and possibly my rotors replaced?
I'm going to be taking them into a mechanic I've never been to before... could someone tell me the relative price I should expect? I don't want to be ripped off (again). =\

Here we go again. You need to decide if the usual off-shore el-cheapo rotors will last through two years in northern climates. Generally speaking front wheel drive off-shore rotors cost between $35.- $45.00.each. Top quality American, British or Canadian rotors cost $20.00 more each. Companies like AC-Delco,Wagner and EBC have the better premium rotors. Auto parts stores, NAPA and Car Quest have premium American or Canadian made rotors. You need to decide what to ask for. All Auto Zone rotors are off-shore.
Premium low dust ceramic and organic brake pads will cost $45.- $55 if you shop around.
Any competent mechanic would charge $125. -$150. for the work. If you know someone who's done this before it's almost too easy to have it hired out to be done.
I've dealt with many new car dealerships and they don't have a problem with you carting in your own parts. None of them like to keep a pile of stock on the shelves because it costs money and space.

DEpends on the make and model. If it is a Cavalier, pads and rotors should be no more than $175. If it's a Mercedes or Ferrari , maybe $1000 A chrysler Sebring shuld cost you $200 to $250. Depending on what grade of brake pads you buy. I would recommend going with ceramic pads. They are alittle more costly but don't create brake dust or overheat as easily. In the long run they are worth it.

You can get an idea of the cost of the parts on several different auto parts stores, but as far as the shops/mechanics
labor rates- that varies with every repair facility.
You can ask for an estimate of the cost before you have them start any work . They have to give you that by law.

hi, it should be no more than $300 total...probably around $260...if they want more than $300 go somewhere else..good luck..
