If you are referring to Mental Illness, yes it is highly hereditary.

My father was schizophrenic, my mother suffers from various types of depression.

I am Bipolar; I have OCD, DID and PTSD and my daughter also is Bipolar, has OCD and PTSD

I am very thankful for my medication!

It depends why he was there. Schizophrenia and depression SEEM to have a hereditary factor but it isn't entirely established. Environment still seems to play a huge part at this time. Therapy and drugs have advanced enormously since your grandfather's time.

Not necessarily. There are probably hereditary factors involved, but the matter is complex and you aren't much more at risk than someone chosen at random.

Being a lunatic most often runs in the family. Sometimes it skips a generation, sometimes not.
Why? Who knows, not me.
Just keep in mind (?) that when others ask you "why are you acting that way"? It may be time to get checked.

ok first of I have to lett my mom know to go to the next answer. dont ask. Then I would tell you that psychiatrists screwed him up by drugging him enough so that they could zap him will electricity or rip out his brain. have you ever seen that one flew over the cukoo's nest movie? That might be similer to what happened to him.
