If they want news coverage by that newspaper they will provide free tickets. One cannot expect this person to keep paying and paying out of their own pocket. They are not paid that much.

Depends what you are talking about.

Is the editor reviewing the show? Then he definitely should be let in for free.

Is the editor just going for the heck of it? Probably not. The exception might be if he is in charge of the section and needs to keep up with the local entertainment scene. It might be worthwhile for him to see a good local band that he might want to see written up later.
