My wife has had two Gateway laptops during the same time that I have had one HP laptop Pavilion.
I will never buy another Gateway computer.

Yes, if being inexpensive is good. Most major pc makers- like Dell or HP make better performing, longer lasting computers. Businesses will use a Dell or HP if their budgets are tight but almost never a Gateway.

I have owned several Gateways in the past and was happy with them. However, when they segued into the stores, service seemed to suffer. My last few computers have been Dells (I own two right now), and I'm very happy with those as well.

All "brand-name" PC's (Dell/Gateway/HP/etc.) are about the same.
They're built on an assembly line by cheap labor with the cheapest parts (bought in huge trays = 1000 processors) that the corporation can buy. They really cheap out on the computer cases and power supplies.
If you want the best for your money and like to learn, build your own.

I Personally use an E-Machine as does my Husband and they are an awesome computer. We both have duel Hard drives, and use them for Graphics, Music, Movies and all kinds of things, We use DSL with them and the speed is wonderful and fast. I've never used a Gateway but My Suggestion would be to go and look at G-Machines. See what YOU think.
