I am thinking about switching my browser from IE to firefox on my desktop. I have firefox on my laptop already for school, so I am familiar with it. I was wondering if I switched, could I uninstall all the IE updates along with IE since I won't be using IE anymore, and have my computer run safely.

You can't delete I.E., it is an integral part of the Op. sys., simply, delete the shortcut for it and quit using it.

And then;

Firefox Tuning

Rise up the speed of your Firefox Browser:

Open the configuration menu by typing in the following into the field where you normally fill in the URLs:

About:config

In the config menu you have to set up the following changes:

- network.http.pipelining (put “true”)
- network.http.proxy.pipelining (put “true”)
- network.http.pipelining.maxrequests put on 100
- network.http.max-connections 48
- network.http.max-connections-per-server 16
- network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy 8
- network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server 4

You save the changes by clicking the right button of your mouse somewhere on the screen and choose new -> integer from the menu. Now you have to write nglayout.initialpaint.delay into the popup and type in number 0 into the next window.

That´s it, now you are able to surf much faster threw the internet with your Firefox browser!

The amount of space that IE and its' updates use is rather negligible, so I personally wouldn't go through the hassle of jumping through the hoops it requires to completely uninstall IE. Plus, it's nice to have since not every website is coded specifically for Firefox, and you will run in to (few and far between, of course) that will require IE to access.

You can make firefox your default browser so it's unnecessary to remove it as home computers have plenty of disk space. You need the activex controls for upgrading Window and may need it to get them. You should keep it updated also. Do you have IE on you laptop? I have the option to remove IE 7 on my computer. I downloaded it from Microsoft.

You don't have to get rid of IE but when you open up firefox It will ask if you want it to b your default browser and click yes. Or it's also in you internet settings. I would never go back to IE after using firefox.

If you're running Windows, you shouldn't uninstall IE or its updates (In most Windows versions uninstalling IE is not even an option -- you can remove the shortcuts but it is still there). There are hacks for removing IE, but many scripts, programs and websites will not function correctly if IE is missing.

You will need to keep IE on the system in order to download any updates from Microsoft, just make Firefox your default browser after you download it.
