I was making $14.50/hr being an assistant manager for five months (I've been with the company for 2 years) and the woman who used to be the assistant manager is coming back to work, she was getting paid $17.00/hr. To come back to work my boss offered to pay her $18.50/hr (since I have to go back to school and will be working 35 hours instead of 40 hours) I'll be going down to Leasing Manager and down to $11.00/hr. I asked him why he's going to be paying me so low and he said "it's just not in the budget" I don't think it's fair that he offered the assistant manager more money to come back but can't afford to keep me at my current wage. Is there anything I can do?

experience counts. Swallow it and prove your worth. Fight it and show you are not up to it.

you got the break because it was there don't waste it because she is back where she belongs!!!

I wonder if your boss is happy with your work performance. Have you had an evaluation? Your boss is paying someone EXTRA money just to come back to work, and cutting your pay. Your wage is actually being shifted to the other employee. I think your boss is not happy with your work or doesn't like you. Sorry. That is how it looks to me.

That does'nt sound right to me. A little favoritism seems to be in order. Your boss should have informed you first before lowering your pay that is the standard rule anywhere. I would be asking a lot of questions to the right people if I were you.

Show him your true worth by being the most productive________you can be. Make him an offer...if you can improve your production/output by X, will he be willing to move you back to the $14.50. If he won't accept that, I think you are sunk...for now.

What he is saying is your actually starting a "NEW " postion by changing your hours and he is only going to pay this amount to you for that job.
