If you don't want it to run all night, why don't you just shut it off?
It's not good for a computer to be running 24/7 anyways, also why leave it on standby? Unless you have a P2P file share or something that has to access your computer overnight, you'd be best to just turn it off and give it a rest. you just have to re-boot in the morning.
This is what I do and it gives it some down time and saves on the electric bill as well.

It could be that you have your disk defrag or virus protection software scheduled to run at night. Even in stand by mode, a computer will kick off those processes.

Possibe help, do you have more then one operating system? If so you must put them both to sleep. Just a guess.... good luck, I can't think of anything else.
