Personally I like the Whisper brand. Easy to set up and install, easy to maintain and filter materials are inexpensive and easy to get.

Whisper is a brand name for an outside filter. Outside filters give biological and mechanical filtration. Where as undergravel or sponge filters only do biological filtering. I useoutside filters on any tank that has a large amt of fish in it.They are more expense but worth it. I prefer the Tetratec brand over the whisper
.

Not really....only if you are using it for a ten gallon, and I would still get a bigger filter....generally you want to go with a filter that is rated for double the size of your tank. A bigger filter means happier fish!!!

yes, I had one in my 10 gallon tank, it keeps the tank clear, and it very easy to change, and inexpensive to change.
