It all depends. If the Democrats can overcome the "Electoral College Lock" then they will prevail. The term comes from a combination of southern and western states, with one or two others, adding up to 270 votes from the Electoral College which is a majority of those votes. In 2000, Albert Francis Gore, Jr. failed to gain the electoral votes of his own home state, Tennessee, and that meant one more southern state for the Republican candidate. In 1992, William Jefferson Clinton came in third in Utah, yet managed to win the election.
You also have to take all of these early polls and stentorian "expertise"being spouted by folks gaining "face time" on news shows with a grain of salt. First, the polls are population weighted, producing far more respondents in states which the Republicans have been carrying in all of their victories since the Nixon administration. Secondly, many of those "experts" need native guides if they go to any point in the country beyond the Washington D.C. beltway, with the exception of California.

According to USA News & World Report: If the mortgage meltdown continues through this year and the six months of next? The Democrats will have a lock on the White House for sure.

You'd have to make the Democrats the favorite, due to the Iraq war.

However, I've learned never to say never about this stuff. Hillary Clinton is the front-runner for the Democrats, but her negative poll ratings are very high. Plus, nominating a liberal from the Northeast didn't work so well for them in 2004. I would guess Rudy Guliani might be able to make it an interesting race against her.

I hope that a Democrat (namely Obama) wins the White House. Another Republican Presidency would be disastrous for this country.

Maybe neither. Cheney and Bush want to hit Iran, and there's not much time, so if it doesn't get done before January, you know what can happen.
