In a twenty-year Australian study of 270,000 students, Dr. Ken Rowe found that both boys and girls performed between 15 and 22 percentile points higher on standardized tests when they went to separate schools.

A 2001 British study of 2954 high schools and 979 primary schools showed that nearly every girl regardless of her ability or socio-economic status performed better in single sex classrooms than co-ed ones. The study concluded that single sex education was particularly beneficial to girls. Highest achieving students in this study were girls in single sex schools followed by co-ed girls, then boys in single sex schools and finally co-ed boys.

In a 1995 experiment in Virginia, 100 eight graders separated for math and science. The girls immediately began to achieve more, become more confident and participate more often in class.

Just within the past few years researchers have used magnetic resonance imaging to actually watch the human brain work. They have been able to observe physical differences between female and male brains as they function, particularly at high level tasks such as the SAT exam. Understanding these differences have led to using different kinds of teaching methods for each sex, which may partly explain why single sex schools work so well.

I went to an all girls convent school. My parents were not really concerned about the same sex or co-ed but more of the good standards of the school. In most cases, there are higher standards of education and tranditions for most same sex school.

Generally for high school and college having your child in a same sex school will improve their focus in the classroad. I think that this is a plus for both but probably more so for the girls who mature faster in high school and could learn at a greater speed without the distraction of the less mature males in the class. I'm a male so I'm talking about my own kind I know but it is true.

many research reports have shown that girls learn better in classrooms without boys, as boys absorb more of the teacher's time. same sex schools tend to have smaller populations as well, so there are fewer students to every teacher, so you'd hope each student gets more individual attention and support. finally, most same sex schools are private or special entry (academic), and better funded, and therefore have better facilities and resources for students.

i think its important for kids to have some regular exposure to the opposite sex though: either in primary school before foing to a same sex high school, or through extra-curricular actitvities, or family, family friends. otherwise they don't have the social skills to deal with other genders! kids i went to school with who were in a girls school from the age of 5 definitelty don't have the healthiest relationships and friendships with guys.

Because children of a certain age are highly distracted by sexual interaction during class times and need to avoid this to get the most from school. In particular, girls who do very well in school up through middle school (junior high) start dropping in performance when they are in competition with boys in science and math while boys retreat from performing well in English and art under peer pressure as to what involves masculinity.
Thus valedictorians of high school graduation are often girls with heavy loads of English classes with too little science and math while the top performing boys (academically) are strong on science and math while the most popular boys have heavy involvement in athletics with much lower academic results.

I attended an all-girls' high school and it was a good experience. My options were crappy public schools in our area, or not-so-great co-ed private schools that would have been pretty far from home.
I am so grateful that I was able to go to my high school.

We had plenty of opportunities for social interacting, too, in case you wondered. We had uniforms, but that just makes you think harder about how to express yourself. We had dances and activites, and it was a good experience.

Good luck finding out more! :)

To get a better education and not have to worry about pregnancies. I personally wouldn't mind going to a same sex school... if you get my drift. ^_^

each from time to time ladies get distracted by potential of boys (same with boys opposite direction around) and that they slack on their artwork so each from time to time the mothers and fathers deliver them to a same intercourse college so they gained't be distracted and that they could spend greater time on their college artwork. even though it is not stable to maintain them in a same intercourse college for to to long in any different case they could get much less social with the different intercourse and that could reason shyness around everybody they don't be attentive to o.k..
