My 9 month old baby is teething and has really bad diarreah. Also has a really bad diaper rash. I've tried A and D but is not doing anything, her doctor also gave me a prescribtion but also not doing anything. What can I give her for her diarreah? So far today she's only drank 2 6 oz bottles and right after that she used the restroom bad. She doesn't want a bottle anymore. She also got her shots 2 days ago I don't know if that could also be a reason why she is sick. What can I feed her that can help her stomach.

The diarrhea is probably related to the teething - especially if it's REALLY stinky! I've had parents of teething kids tell me the diapers could knock you over from across the room. Otherwise, it's probably a little bug she's picked up somewhere along the line.

Anyway. What to do:
Give her some pedialyte or other clear fluids to drink. Try to avoid any milk products because lactose (the mik sugar) is not easily digested, and avoid juice because it can make diarrhea worse. If she'll eat, give her anything starchy - bananas, rice (rice cereal counts), applesauce, or toast - they call it the BRAT diet. Cereal, noodles, mashed potatoes, crackers - anything like that she already eats is good. If she's not interested in food, don't push her, if her tummy feels rough, she may not be interested right now. Just keep the fluids. You can try boiling some white rice, draining it, keeping the water from the rice, letting it cool and mixing it with something she'll already drink -this way she gets the rice starch.

Stay away from things like pepto or immodium. These things have been known to give pains to tender tummies, or make diarrhea last longer - two things you probably don't need right now!

As for the diaper rash - air is the best thing for it. Since she's got the runs, you can't let her go without a diaper right now, so just attach it loosely at the waist. When changing her, try not to use wipes - they can irritate. Use plain warm water and a mild soap - like Dove. The docs I work for swear by a product called Boudreau's Butt Paste, but if you can't find that, use Desitin.

Good luck! I hope she feels better!

I just went through this. My son is one week shy of 9 months and he had diarrhea all last week with a bit of vomiting. Giving Pedialyte is good or even water, anything to keep her from getting dehydrated. I wouldn't worry about trying to get her to eat food, just give her breastmilk/formula whichever she's on. Make sure that you check her temperature often. If she gets a fever, take her back to the doctor. This is all that my doctor told me when I took my son last week. The diarrhea could be from teething, which is very common, or it may be just a virus. (in which case it will most likely have to run its course, there isn't really any medicine gentle enough for babies and diarrhea) Look up the signs for Rotavirus and keep an eye out. It's very common but can get serious in infants because of the dehydration issue.

Believe me, I know how you feel. We had so many poop explosions last week, I even had to cut some of my son's clothing off!! lol Ewww.

give her some oatmeal and bananas, applesauce, and plenty of liquids. as for the diaper rash i have the answer.... aquaphor and butt paste. put the aquaphor on first then the butt paste. if you want to use a bit of corn starch over that you can do that too. don't use whips, only warm water and mild soap. also give her 3 warm baths with 2 tablespoons of baking powder and 1/3 pack of aveno oatmeal powder a day. this should clear it up in 3 to 4 days. good luck. it works.

Give Pedialyte. The electrolytes will help with brain development when they cannot breastfeed or take formula. Give bananas, toast (Very small pieces), applesauce, and rice. These foods will help.

bananas help to firm up diarrhea. Call her Dr and ask the Dr. You might try Pedialyte to put back the electrolytes she loses with diarrhea.
