See, it is annoying! I hate it, it annoys me so much. And for some reason, it is always the sort of people who read the Mail or Express, those who thinks common nouns like 'thugs' and 'prisoners' and 'immigrants' should have capital letters.

Haha, I noticed a typo in my question details! *those who think... Jesus, how terrible to conjugate incorrectly. It was a typo, honest lol.

Steve, please see added details above. And it is not pedantic at all to spot the difference between common and proper nouns, it is simple.

Spelling a common noun with a capital letter cannot even be blamed on lazy English, because lazy English involves no capital letters. I just want to know WHY people do it. (It would be helpful if someone who does it could answer that. I see it all the time in the BBC forums.)

Not as much as when they miss out an indefinite article.

Yes and the opposite annoys me, too. When people are using proper nouns and do not capitalize.

Mail and Express readers are usually evolutionary throwbacks who lack thumbs. We should congratulate them for managing to use a pen rather than mocking their confused capital letters.

sorry, but no. there just words. people even use #s sum times and misspell on purpose like i`m doing right now. it`s nothing to get up set about. aslong as it`s not like an important paper, then no. your probably complaining over the messages u get, well it doesn`t matter either their mistakes or we just want to wright shorter, just don`t make a big deal out of it, sheesh!

If you are going to be pedantic and criticise other peoples vocabulary and grammar, make sure you are not above criticism yourself.
I could pick a few holes in your written English.
Stop being so petty.

Yes, but it's equally important to match verb tense to subject, as in "those who think" not "them'ns who thinks."
