My husband and I decided not to, even though in our part of the country it is usually done.

I'd decided before I had my kid that, if it were a boy, I wasn't going to circumcise him. There was quite a lot of outcry against this decision of mine, but you know, people can deal with it. *shrug* It doesn't matter what anybody else thinks.

why do people have to ridicule others for their decisions? For God's sake, these people are the parents! They are quite capable of deciding what is best for their own children! There are so many immature people out there! I work in the health care field, One elderly man had to be circumsized at 88 because of urinary tract infections (not being clean enough) Would you rather do it at birth, when the child will never remember, or at 88? Also in the United States kids can be cruel, for the most part most boys are circumsized, and the ones that are not, are often teased. Not that I am for or against, just telling you what I know for sure! Who cares what country you are from and what you do, we are talking about what is best for our kids!! Mothers, do what you think is best!!!! Screw everyone else!

My wife was apathetic, so she left the ultimate decision up to me (gee, thanks honey). I had some reservations, but ultimately decided to have it done. It's a weird practice, but the end result seems cleaner. All of the guys in my family were done, and have never had any problems that I know of. All the guys that I grew up with were done too. It's not like the doctor cuts off the whole thing - they just trim up loose skin.

At the hospital I asked about pain killers and they said no problem. Our obstetrician said he preferred the plastic ring method because the results were better aesthetically, and more predictable. Apparently there's another method with a metal clamp.

The ring fell off a few days after we brought Jayden home, and it seems to have done its job the way it was supposed to.

I wouldn't stress over the decision. Either way I think your little man will be happy.

My son was circumcised after he was born. My husband and I both agreed to have it done. I had heard about it not being done and getting an infection and smelling really bad and I figured why put this child through all that pain if it will end up getting infected and hard to clean.
He was in pain for a day or so, but it seems like he recovered very quickly and never had any problems.
He is almost 20 and I DO NOT REGRET THAT DECISION AT ALL!!!!
To each his own.

I dont have a son yet, but my husband and I disagree on this issue.

My husband got circ'ed when he was 12. He says that having experienced life both uncut and cut, he greatly prefers being cut, but wishes his parents had it done when he was a baby. Therefore, he wants to get our son cut when hes a baby (assuming we ever have a son)

I tell him that our child should have the same choice that he did. It is a potentially dangerous procedure that could cause problems or deformities. I dont think there are any real benefits that would make it worth it. If he wants to CHOOSE to have it done later, when he knows all there is to know, fine.

I would hate to have my sexual organs permanently altered without my permission, so this is something that hubby and I will have to continue to discuss.

My husband and I agreed from the beginning. We would have our son circumcised. The child DOES NOT remember it AT ALL. Hey men out there???? Do you remember it being done to you? I didn't think so. It is not barbaric at all, and anyone that says it is, is nuts! Its better health wise, and this might sound awful, but socially too. You women out there cant say that I'm wrong only because would you want to be with a man that wasn't??? I don't want my son to go through that embarrassment. NO WAY!!! I would rather have done it when he was 2 days old, rather than him living through any unnecessary ridicule and embarrassment!

It's hard to believe that about Australia. Hard to believe the government could be so stupid, arrogant and infringe on people's personal rights like that. Shouldn't parents have a choice?
Also, I live in Europe and had a hell of a time getting my youngest son circumcised, and whether they admit it or not, there is a lot of racism and anti-semitism still in Europe and other countries. That is the real reason they don't want them to get circumcised because they'll look like jews or muslims (to them anyway).
As for the health benefits, my father had a phimosa as a young teen and it was extremely unpleasant to be circumcised at that age. My wife worked for years in European day care centers and saw nothing but infections and other problems, so she insisted that ours be circumcised.

I had my son circumcized because his two cousins that weren't had many issues.

Cotton or something else would get stuck in there and it would irritate them and hurt and they had a hard time getting whatever was in there out. Also, it smelled a lot on both of them.

For other people, that's not the issue and not circumsizing has been wonderful for their children. However, everyone that I know that hasn't been circumcised has had these issues as well.

No way!! I have one son who is 7 years old. when I was pregnant with him my boyfriend at the time and I did a lot of research and we just came to the conclusion that it was unnecessry to put our son through a procedure like that. He has never had any problems at all, we just had to teach him how to pull his foreskin back and clean in there when he showers. No biggie. I am pregnant with my third child now, and I don't know yet if it's a boy or a girl, but my husband is very much in favor of circumcision and I am not. So, we'll see what happens...

Yes, I'm circumcising. I'm 30 weeks along with a boy right now, and that was something I decided to do, actually, pretty quickly after I found out I was having a boy.
I guess I just assume that it's easier for both me (when I'm taking care of his dirty diapers) and him (as he gets older).
It might be a "social thing" with me, too... not really sure. I've been with an un-circumcised man before, and a circumcised man, and for me, I guess, it's just more "attractive" when cut.
So, I want that for my son.
It's mostly a hygiene thing for me though.
