I don't think Vauxhall Astras are here in the U.S where i live, but I've Driven the Saturn Astra, which is basically the american Vauxhall Astra. I love the it,so I'd say go with that.

never had a kia, but we had 4 brand new astras in a year. they were slow, heavy and uncorfortable. i couldn't do a 2 hour journey without stopping for a stretch and a walk. (done same journey in loads of other cars no problem). couldn't fit my son's car seat in properly and the aircon was not cold! but we did like the stereo. test them both and test some others, see what fits your needs. if you are only doing short trips, you might like the astra as quite cheap to run. depends what your priorities are

The Astra. It may have a slightly smaller boot than the Rio, but is superior in just about every other way - higher quality, more interior space, better ride & handling, better crash performance and as it is a diesel lower fuel consumption.

It has to be the Astra the Rio was still a ropey car and the Tdi is better on fuel and cheaper than petrol.
Also it will be worth more than the Rio when you come to sell it.

Ask yourself this : M&S or Lidl ?
Get the picture ?
I know the Astra may not be M&S in most peoples eyes, but even so .............
Look in Parkers used car website for excellent advice.
