I am going to build a computer that will be good for music production software. I believe building it would be cheaper?

What is best AMD athlon 64 x2 dual core or Intel Core2 Duo ?

My head has pickled trying to decide my budget is around £100.00 for the processor. Thanks if you can help

AMD's Athlon 64 X2 processors are excellent and might be available for a bit less money, but Intel's Core 2 Duo series is king when it comes to performance.

That said, you may find that at a particular price point AMD is more attractive (Perhaps buying a 10% slower CPU allows you to afford 2GB of RAM and a decent video card instead of 1GB of RAM and crappy integrated video)

You'll have to check prices in the UK, but I'm pretty sure the Core 2 Duo E6400 is at the upper end of your budget.

I'm not too good at conversions, especially with our ever weakening Dollar.

But in any case, Intel's Core 2 architecture is superior to AMD's again X2, from the $75 e2140 to the $1,000 QX6800.

Core2 Duo would be unbeatable. E6750 would fit your budget.
