It means you are going through a lot of REM (rapid eye movement) cycles. It is the phase in sleep when you dream. This stage of sleep comes directly after stage four sleep, or delta wave sleep, when you have the most restful sleep. You have a REM cycle approximately every one and a half hours, with slightly longer ones as you progress through the sleep cycles. The longest REM cyle occurs in the morning right before you wake up, which explains why a lot of people have more, and more vivid, dreams right before waking. I always think that the more you dream, the more imaginative you are, but that is my own personal theory! Sweet dreams!

It means you're getting a lot of REM sleep, meaning partially awakening during sleep. You may awake up, not feeling totally rested. Rem sleep is not considered a quality [deep] sleep. But, if that's not a problem, carry on.

This is only anecdotal evidence..... I am a molecular biologist. I am very intelligent. If I don't use my brain a lot during the day, I have very vivid and frightening dreams. However, if I think a lot during the day, my sleep is dreamless. It is not a matter of physical exhaustion or being tired.....it's a matter of using my intellect.

Usually it means that you have something on your mind. You might be anxious for something, nervous, excited, scared, or maybe hiding a personal secret.
I'm no psychologist, but that tends to be the case with me and I've heard from many people that that's the reason why you dream.

It means you're alive. You stop dreaming, you die!
