Keep in mind that for *many* conservatives and liberals, there isn't actually hatred--just disagreement. However, in anonymous venues like Yahoo Answers, the extremists of both groups weigh in by flinging fairly meaningless insults at each other. You also see a lot of animosity when there's a "contest," such as an election on the forefront, because so many ads and campaigns skew negative now, the opposite side feels attacked, and people who feel attacked fight back.

It helps to remember that, really, most conservatives *and* most liberals love our country and want what's best for it. We just disagree about some of the details of how to get there.

Personally, I'd say that people tend to show an inability if not outright unwillingness to do the soul-searching that objectivity requires. Be it politics, religion, or overall world views and philosophies, it's easier to gloss over the limitations of one's one theories and assumptions (while demonizing any and all dissent) then it is to eat some humble pie and admit that no political platform, set of religious tenets or any other human endeavor has all the answers. I've occasionally been guilty of this myself by the way, to anyone who might be tempted to dismiss me with charges of smug elitism. I try to be cognizant of these things however.

Mostly, it seems like silly, anonymous fun. Half the people calling themselves "libs" probably have plenty of conservative views and half the "cons" have a liberal side.

Political bigotry is cheap, very hard to to do if you have ethics, but easy if you don't, and is the last bastion of prejudice we tolerate in the United States.

That's why I speak up.

That's why you won't be able to stop.

Hard to close your eyes once their open.

Good luck. A lot of us are out here with you.

We're called patriots.

I don't see much hatred by cons toward the libs bit libs are viperous in their hatred toward any opposing view.

Just check out the next time a conservative speaker is invited to a college campus to speak. Those liberal students that don't agree will do anything they can to ensure that the speaker can't even speak to students who may want to hear what they have to say.
