This is the deal, I am going off to college in about 2 weeks. I am very fortunate because my best friend is going to the same school as me, so we'll be living together, and also, my grandparents live in the area, so we'll be staying with them. They are awfully kind for letting us stay with them, and have even moved into the guest bedroom so we could share the bigger, master bedroom. The only thing is, the walls in there are covered with wall paper, and its not exactly our "style" its kind of...um...old lady. lol. We are completely grateful that they are letting us stay there, but we'd like to room to reflect our personalities. Does anyone know any ways to hang up stuff like posters and stuff, or other creative ways to display our posters/art without damaging my grandmother's wallpaper?

The 3M Command Strips hangers are great. They have special poster strips as well as a variety of hooks and clips. About the best selection I have found is at The Container Store.

Tim has a good thought.

With all due respect certainly to you and your grandparents,,,some compromises should be accepted by both,,,however defacing THEIRS should be the last thing you consider, or even ASK about. The Good news is, You're Young,,, you'll get over it. :)

Define "THINGS", first of all, and create dimensional surfaces that already exist or are acceptable to THEM, to display your THINGS. I want to assume Posters etc.; and you might find dozens of alternatives.

Certainly you can HANG from the ceiling, but that means causing some level of defacing, and FIX after the fact. You could use Easels for Icon posters. even MOUNT them on foam core and find methods of showing them.

I spent 6 years at NYU and managed to "create" my own spaces and personalities in a small apartment. I want so much to assume that since you've gotten so far as to attend College, you also have the ability to not only respect your grandparents and their property, but come up with innumerable ways to express yourself in the confines of that SPACE they allow you to have.

Good Luck to you; your friend; and say THANKS often; please.

The 3-M Command products work great for this. They have a variety of products that you can use to hang things with that will not mar the walls when removed.

I agree 3M Command or Blue Tac will work to hold up most anything, won't damage the walls and removes completely. Office supplies, discounters and craft stores all carry them.

You can try hanging things from the ceiling on strong wire, then attaching the wire to the floor as well. (Or dangling it with weight on the bottom)

I've seen systems like this in Target / Walmart for sale. It's a neat way to do pictures, and it is visually appealing (to me).

there is this sticky tack stuff out there. its hard to explain, but it's like a putty, its used to hang stuff on walls.. i remember it from gradeschool.. teachers use it all the time. i know you can find it at home depot (i used to work there) in the paint dpt, that is where the glue is.. it doesnt ruin the walls, and you can hang up as much as u like!!
