Todays game is just a precursor for the future. First batter he faces gets a double, then another double, then a ground out , then a two run home run. Should they make Joba Chamberlain the closer?

Mariano is struggling right now, that's for sure, but I would not be too hard on him. He always struggles this time every single year, late summer. I remember in 2002, he gave up a game-winning grand slam in August to Bill Selby of Cleveland, and in 2004, he gave up the game-winning three run shot to Bill Mueller in Boston. It was bad timing, but at least they didn't lose any ground to Boston today.

You just have to be patient with Mariano, without him, the Yankees don't win four championships, he just goes through a dead-arm period this time of the season, I wouldn't worry. Mariano's struggles this time are different than early in the season, because then, it was due to not being used enough. He had to pitch more than once a week.

I think Joba could close, but the Yankees are being careful with how they handle him, and not using him on back-to-back days. This is Job's first year in pro baseball, he was drafted last year but signed too late to play, so the Yankees are being cautious. The guy is the future.

I'll still take Mariano over anyone, he will be back soon.

How can you put the word suck in the same sentence as Mariano Rivera? He is going to wind up as the best closer in the history of baseball. So what if he had 2 rough games, it happens. He has been pretty much lights out after a rough start to the season.

And by the way to the"#1 Yankees Fan" or whatever your name is down there, he's blown 3 saves all season.

He doesn't. Any player can have a bad day. Just because he is Mariano Rivera, the best closer ever in baseball, doesn't mean he can't be off once in a while. This is not a precursor for the future, this man has a lot left in him, maybe 10 years.

I wonder...... that cutter fastball.... it's non-existant this year. Is it Guidry and the emphasis on what he thinks Mo should be throwing? Mariano never had this problem with Mel, I realize that age could be a factor, or possibly pain in his throwing shoulder or something.

Sorry to answer your question with a question, but I sometimes tend to do that. Joba Chamberlain, isn't he slated to be a starter? The Yankees better figure this out quick.

Yes, Mariano is sucking right now and I hope that whatever ails him ends soon.

See, posts like this and the guy above, just prove people's points when we say some Yankee fans on here are so unloyal. How can you diss Mariano Rivera??? How many championships has this dude won for you? You do this to everyone when they are slumping. A-Rod, Giambi etc...unbelievable. You are so what have you done for me lately fans. Mariano is not lights out every game anymore, but he sure is still considered a quality closer in my eyes and now you want some rookie who has no major league experience replace Rivera in a playoff race?? Wow! Sorry, but that is so crazy.

Remember, great pitchers just like great hitters go into slumps. If anyone deserves a little slack, it is Mariano Rivera!

We'll be okay, as long as we sweep boston this upcoming series we can still win the AL East.....or at least solidify the wildcard!

Mo definitely sux right now, as a Yankee fan, its really ticking me off. Everyone couldn't believe that the yanks didn't want to resign him at first in preseason, he WAS great, now he is done. You know who sux worse? ERIC GAGNE!!! I have something else to add unrelated to question, how many players do the redsox have on their team that came up through their farm systems? Yankees have more than anyone in baseball playing right now but we buy our teams?
