because western media is aimed primarily at the western audience and the news which is related to them. in this vein, the majority of news coming out of places like Iraq is negative because it is covering yet another bombing or event which has killed western troops because that directly relates to the west, giving a very biased coverage and mediation to the public, building up certain representations. diasporic media outlets such as Al Jazeera have been argued to give a 'fairer' representation as it doesn't cater to the western audience.
however, in media, nothing can be respresented 'fairly'. the mediation or gatekeeping which is how information is selected and put together and given to the public means that everything we are shown is a construct from a certain persons point of view.

No. but then the media has a habit of not portraying anything in a manner that wouldn't be profitable for it, and banner headlines like ... 'Traditional Muslim family spend an evening at home helping their kids with the homework' won't sell papers etc. But I think that's likely to be what the majority are doing, in much the same way as the families of every other religious denomination.

Probably not, but then it`s up to the good Muslims to stand up and make a bit more noise. Polls have suggested that an awfull lot of British Muslims sympathise with the terrorists. We are breeding a new generation of extremists here and goodness knows what this country will be like in 10 or 20 years from now.
Edit: Racism is hating a race, not a religion!

represented? in western media. They should be in the movies and not so much in the news. Hollywood has a near perfect Vail for them and they can hide in the hills of a directors film . When they say it is against their religion, I do not buy that story because all indications are that they are headed in that direction, so lock them up in Hollywood Land.and the only way out is through the tube of television...

I wonder why the western media doesn't cover the Muslim Peace Movement more. Oops on second thought is there a Muslim Peace Movement?

As a Muslim, I would say no. The media only portray those who are extreme and do things to attract media attention. This increases ratings. The vast majority of Muslims are peaceful people and moderates as well, but there is no high rating story in this, so they ignore it.

Represented fairly?? In the UK all the media and government bend over backwards to accommodate them. I'd like to know what the hidden agenda is and what's in store for the English.

I'm personally quite sick of pandering to the needs of Muslims and stepping on egg shells to not ffend them. Afterall, they don't give a toss who they upset in the name of their religion. I think that the Western Media are somewhat conservative in their opinions.

NO, not at all. The media has lied about Islam so much that the whole world thinks that Islam and Muslims are to blame for the actions of the terrorists.
