the causes for domestic violence are numerous & complex. some of them, as i see it, are: immaturity, insecurity, need to be in control / power, alcohol & certain drugs, socialization, out of control temper / inability to control anger. i'm sure there's many more, and most are combined to cause domestic violence.

as for men reporting it, technically they're supposed to have the same rights. unfortunately, they face potential ridicule if they do. some men have even been arrested for DV when it was them that called for help. often, men are not beleived as readily, on EITHER side of a DV report (either reporting it or trying to deny inflicting it.)

it's really rather sad. another men's issue that needs attention.

Domestic violence can be caused by lots of things. lets say a child grows up watching mom or dad get beat up. they see this all the time. it is drilled into their heads. now this child grows up and remembers seeing the abuse that their parents did to each other and they think. well it's the only way. so they hit and beat their husband or wife because that is all they have seen growing up. they continue the cycle of abuse. and if they have kids well you see what i mean.

I am going to send this question to a friend and let him tell you a few more issues that may cause dv. if you want stats I don't know any i do know on www.shatteredmen.com they give some stats if you want to check them out.

Anything a man does can be considered abuse. Look at the recent story of a woman who murdered her husband and her story is that "he wanted me to dress up in sexy underwear and wear a blonde wig".

On the other hand, women get a free pass for behavior that is clearly defined as abuse according to the law. But remember, the judge is not a robot or a computer. Men AND women judges are more likely to look at the man with a jaundiced eye and give him a harsh sentence. That is why murdering women get off scot-free.

Here are the typical reactions to inter-gender violence...
A woman slapping a man - What made her slap him? He must have done something stupid, right?

A man slapping a woman - He's going straight to jail, and I sure hope he gets raped while in prison, right?

Men are, by LAW, liable to be arrested in domestic violence cases even when it is clear that the woman is the abuser. Look up primary aggressor and must-arrest laws.

Must-arrest = The police must arrest either party in a DV situation.
Primary aggressor = The man must be arrested before the woman.

Abuse is any act that causes bodily, mental, or emotional harm. The right to report that harm is equal for men and women.
How severe the abuse is determines the legal action that can be taken. However, many people who are abused are too afraid to come forward. This is equal for men and women. Women seem to feel too powerless to come forward, men too afraid they will not be taken seriously.
There are many factors in domestic abuse, such as history of abuse, substance abuse, mental illness, and trauma. All of those are taken into consideration by the law, unless the victim does not want to prosecute. (Some states will take matters into their own hands, however, if there is a record, or the abuse is severe.)

Of course men can report domestic abuse. It is considered assault in the western countries as well.

Domestic abuse between spouses or intimate partners is when one person in the relationship tries to control the other person. The perpetrator uses fear and intimidation and may threaten to or actually use physical violence. Domestic abuse that includes physical violence is called domestic violence.
The victim of domestic abuse or domestic violence may be a man or a woman. Domestic abuse occurs in traditional heterosexual marriages, as well as in same-sex partnerships. The abuse may occur during a relationship, while the couple is breaking up, or after the relationship has ended.
The key elements of domestic abuse are:

Intimidation
Humiliation
Physical injury
Domestic abuse often escalates from threats and verbal abuse to physical violence. Domestic violence may even end up in murder.

First, in modern society, men have no rights whatsoever, particularly if they are perceived as being "white".
If a man is abused, he had better run, because the police would never take his side.
As to what causes domestic violence, the main factors are: PUBLIC EDUCATION and PUBLIC POLICIES. When women quit being valued for their bodies (much more prevalent now that there are "women's rights" activists) and when men are no longed expected to provide and protect, when people can really learn to not be judgmental, then it will start to go away. It will never cease, because, at times, every one is crazy.

Domestic voilence is often caused by undealtwith issues. For instance, men violating the rights of women, he was probably raised in a home that taught him not to respect women. He subconsciously hates his mother for not defending herself or him from his abusive father. Or in some cases, an absent father, and the mother has no parenting skills, and possibly mentally abused him.

There are many other negative factors for the causes of domestic violence.

In places like other countries where women are often taught that their own lives are worth nothing, it is a learned, damaged behavior.

When it's a case of women violating the rights of men, it's because she was probably abused by her male relatives all her life and now she instinctively is targetting someone she feels can't hurt her. Similarly, the men in her life, or her mother's life hurt her and no one was able to protect her. She's now trying to protect herself in a very negative way, even if no one is hurting her.

You have charateristics that she was attracted to when you first met; and she has characteristics that attracted you to her. Quite possibly it was a subconscious attempt to change something in your own childhoods.

For example: You're not perfect, neither is she. You remain because you are victimizing yourself. You can get out of there and attempt to improve your own life if you really wanted.

No one has to stay in abusive relationships anymore. No one is really a victim unless they permit it.
