Personally, I'd get a puppy. There's so much you can do with a dog that you can't do with a bunny. Taking the dog for walks, teaching tricks, curling up on the couch... Dogs are companion animals, and that's what I'm after in a pet. Bunnies are cute, and less work, but they can get boring. A bunny won't greet you at the door, or wag it's tail when you scratch its ears. If you can take care of a dog...vet bills, more food, clean up, bonding time, exercise...get a dog. Research before you get one so that you know you can care for it. Same goes for a bunny. They're a lot of work as well. Not as much work, but still work.

Personally, after having had both, I'd pick a puppy. If you want sweet and cuddly, but intelligent check out Italian Greyhounds, we have two and they are great. They are very low maintenance, virtually no shedding, easily trainable and oh so very sweet! On the other hand, if you get a young bunny from a BREEDER, not a pet store, you can train it to know its name and to come and to use a litter box. My kids got bored with their rabbit very quickly as all he really does is eat and sleep and run. He has his cuddly moments too. For a first pet though, go traditional and get a puppy! Nothings better than puppy breath anyway!

Puppy. Rabbits are fun and I loved having them as a pet. It never got boring with them around =) but they are very high matnience. They need lots of fresh hay everyday and food, water, toys (rabbits LOVE toys), chew sticks, a very large cage that is escape proof, playtime outside the cage, fruits and veggies to keep it healthy, a litter box (they REALLY smell if you don't change it every day), their nails trimmed by a vet every month and love. Also bunnies shed like CRAZY especially in the spring. Puppies need walks, to go out each day to do their business, food, water, toys, love, baths and vet check-ups. Puppies don't normally shed too bad and some dogs like poodles and shnauzers don't shed at all. I've done both and puppies are easier and sometimes more fun. Good luck!

I'm glad your parents are allowing you a pet. There are several breed of dogs that do not shed or are low coat maintainance. See if you can go online or to a bookstore for info on the various breeds. Dogs also need a lot of training. Are you up for that? Also there is no reason for your dog to smell with proper grooming. If you think a dog would be too much work for your schedule then by all means, a rabbit would be fine. Another option would be a guinea pig. They're quite the love bug

If I had no pets and had to choose between a bunny or a puppy I would pick Puppy. Puppys will require lots of time and money (vet bills, food, obedience classes) but I think that if you have enough money to cover all that then a puppy would be more entertaining and fun. Bunnies are fun to but they dont do as much. they are a lot cheaper though.

how much do you value your sleep? my bf has a baby, and a puppy...she says that the puppy is more work and keeps her up more at night than the baby! are you ready for that kind of insomniac responsibility? plus, bunnies are cooler...everybody has a dog! either way i'm sure you will love the animal you choose...just try to make sure you have enough time to dedicate to the pup if that's what you go with (house training, walking, feeding, it really is like having a baby)! too many people get dogs, without actually have the time or devotion to take care of them correctly. good luck!

i have 1 bunny and 3 dogs. dogs are so much fun to have but rabbits are fun to have too. rabbits are more petting and hopping around type pet where as a dog (depends on) can play fetch and cuddle and grows more attached to you. also if your looking for a pet with a personality go with a dog. bunnies are wicked soft and cute though and are a bit easier to take care of.

puppy, they are adorable. Bunnies aren't as clean as you think. They poop all the time, you have to clean their cages, and they shed also. Puppies do have the occassional accident but soon they get potty trained, and not all dogs shed unless they have hair (german shepards, labrador retrievers). I have a husky and she sheds only for 3 months because she has fur. Plus puppies are much more active and fun. Get a pup! :)

You are right in that puppies are a lot of work. However the payoff with pups is far greater than with bunnies. Your puppy will become a family member and if you treat it right you will be rewarded with love that no bunny is capable of giving
