Sometimes I take a look at myself and realize that I really am making excuses. But then some times I want to tell the person saying that to shut the hell up.

What comes to mind is to say (just like this) "I am not making excuses; I was explaining my predicament. However, no need to worry, I won't tell you of my problems again." Then walk away. Believe me it works.

Yes, I am making excuses because I don't want to do what you are telling me to do how you are telling me to do it.
