Actually, it does mean something. I found on the Nintendo website that the way they write Wii on the box, it is supposed to look like the i's are two people standing next to each other, symbolizing how the Wii is a family console. And the way it is said is said like "we" so it's like WE are playing. Cheesy, I know but. So, it's not really an abbreviation but just a play on words.

I really don't know but Wii does stand for what is it so that might be one of the reasons why the Wii is called Wii.

It stands For two people standing together (The ii 's) and It also means that "we" share the wii. "we" play together. It basically means its for everyone. And it Also Can be used in a lot of statements for commericals. I was Originally going to be named revolution but I think you can see why they changed it to Wii.

It's a creative console name. When you hear Xbox, is it 360 or normal? Play Station..well, which one? Wii is just creative and different. When you say Wii, like "we", it means more than one...and it's really easy to pronounce.

they named it wii for multiple reasons (but it doesn't stand for anything), here they are:
-as in "we" meaning it was for everyone
-easy pronunciation in all languages
-the two "i"s are supposed to be two people, symbolizing it was fun for multiple players
