I know it's been going on for about 200 years but let's face baseball is a summer and spring game, shorts should be introduced for the players sake. Don't you think so?

The White Sox tried it briefly (heh) in 1976, for one, maybe two games. It wasn't pretty. Bad, bad idea.

Actually, they have. In the late 1970s the Chicago White Sox tried this.

The problem is this little issue with sliding. If you have ever played baseball, you know the impact a slide has on your skin, even through long pants as protection. With shorts, it would be awful.

If you think it is bad now, just imagine the uniforms of yesteryear that were 100% WOOL!!! Add that to all games being played in the heat of the day due to no lights, and that is really uncomfortable.

One thing baseball really should think about going to is the coolmesh product Nike makes that is very lightweight, breaths, and wicks away moisture. That would help a bunch.

No they shouldn't. Baseball is played on dirt, and sliding will cut their legs open if they don't wear long pants. The shorts can be thin, or made of the same material as basketball shorts. But since sliding is such a major move in baseball, long pants should stay

One reason, they would much rather keep their legs from being torn into shreds every time they slide. Picking little pieces of dirt and rocks from holes in your flesh is not really that fun, especially if you would have to do it 162 times a years. It's for their safety. And in all actuality baseball pants are surprisingly not that hot. They are a very breathable fabric that allows quite a bit of airflow.

Definitely not. Even softball teams are going to pants now. I think they make it easier to slide. Besides, even with shorts, softball players wear spandex shorts, knee-high socks, and usually a sliding pad. Not a lot of their legs show. They might as well wear pants. It would be much easier.

Yeah, just as long as those sexy softball players don some mini skirts.

I also think George Steinbrenner would be against it. He would consider that unprofessional.
