As created by Gramsci to apply marxist philosophy to our culture, is it not the intent to destroy America and its free market economy?

Celebrate Assimilation.

Its not the sole architect of our destruction merely one of many tools used by the Marxist left to bring about the demise of this once great nation.

pip: "melting pot" means all different cultures and colloquialisms combining into one pot and assimilating to make a culture. Our culture is pretty well established at this point in our history. You leftists are all about progress and change and moving forward and then you want to keep us mired in an outmoded growth model. Hypocrisy brother, hypocrisy. And still melting pot never meant all different ingredients separated on the plate.

Edited again: Pip, Yes diversity does promote change. The statement I was making is: YOU(leftists) always want change but defend things like multiculturalism with out dated theories like the melting pot, which is completely contradictory to progress. You live in the future but rush back to the past to defend your ideologies. I don't fear change. What I dislike is change for the sake of change with no positive effect on that which is changed. Please enlighten my fearful self as to what multiculturalism brings that is a positive effect on our nation. And I don't want to hear BS platitudes like "I like Thai food" and that other crap either. Tell me how further distancing ourselves as a people and separating our cultures is positive for our nation. Or can I answer it for you. DIVERSITY GOOD, FIRE BAD.

I cannot even answer this question directly because you buy into the myth that there is such a thing as a single, American culture, which there is not.

The US is a plurality of different cultures and lifestyles based on regional preferences and upbringings. Americans in past eras were using this same scare tactic to stir up the anti-immigrant activism. To their disappointment, no ill came of it.

Too bad the author of this rant fails to mention one key point: the reason for such a low civic participation amongst some immigrant groups is not because their supposed "disdain" or "apathy" but because of the lack of representation for them. By her logic, most native-born americans are just as to blame since they too fail to engage in such civic participation.

People have the right to live the way they so choose as long as it does not violate anyone else's rights. No one should be forced to adhere to a lifestyle that they are not comfortable or capable of living.

Yes. While it is quite appropriate to have pride in your heritage, "multi-culturalism" is divisive. Split everyone into racial or ethnic groups? African Americans, Asian American, Anglo Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans......why not "AMERICANS". Remember what Lincoln said about a house divided? The American culture is crumbling into little individual pieces when we should be trying to find what binds us together instead of what separates us! Immigrants need to assimilate into our culture--you know--the one they admired so much they left THEIR OWN to be A PART OF!

The assertion that minorities are owed their own set of rules, language, preferential treatment, IS a threat. My rule is, when you come to MY house, MY rules apply... you don't get to impose your rules in my house! If you don't like my rules, then get out!

How do you explain the relative success of so many European countries? They seem to be able to function financially and socially with a greater percentage of "multiculturalism" than we see here in the USA.

Countries in Europe are the size of our individual states, and many citizens over there probably speak at least 3 languages fluently.

The "average" American probably possesses a 6th grade vocabulary and reading ability. Most cannot even compose a coherent paragraph.

And how does multiculturalism "destroy" America? Is it your dream to have us all in grey jumpsuits, eating only pot roast and potatoes? How uniform and homogenous do you want Americans to be???

Americans OBVIOUSLY enjoy (and $upport) ethnic cuisines. Look at the growth and success of Hispanic and Asian restaurants and fast food.

Oh, but GOD FORBID we should absorb or tolerate any OTHER aspects of multiculturalism, right?

No, America is NOT being "destroyed," and it will survive quite well.

Marxism has nothing to do with it...

A true example of that is Europe, and although many seem to be able to accept it, many do not and they feel as though they're trapped. The end result being, that it creates a lot of resentment and anxiety because they're being forced into living around lifestyles that they don't necessarily agree with.

That and PC will end up doing more harm than good.

America is and always will be a multi-culturalism country, the problem is;
If America and Americans don't pay attention to this issue and our Country becomes a bi-lingual language nation, a fight for power will explode into an all out racism battle. We need to prevent the use of bi-lingual languages in our government agencies, schools, health care...etc, and force ALL immigrants to adapt to speak one universal language ENGLISH! And this in no way implies that you cannot use your own language outside of public services...e.g. home, parties, church..etc..will be fine!

um.. miss kitty.. you do know that being the melting pot of the world IS an American Value don't you?

Our diversity is one of our strengths.. not a weakness.

Steelgrave... not that you'll probably see this by this point lol.. but still. Being a melting pot does NOT restrict progress.. it brings in different skills and different ideologies ... diversity PROMOTES growth and change.. and I think it's the Change part that scares people like yourself.
