In two hours Martina goes 48 miles. Her distance from the house for times after that is:
Distance = 48 + 24T

John drives at 48 mi/h so:
Distance = 48T

Set these two equal to each other:
48 + 24T = 48T
48 = 24T
T = 2 hours
So it takes John 2 hours to catch up to Martina so the total time Martina has been gone is 2+2 or 4 hours. So the time is 9 AM + 4 hours or 1 PM.

Hours*24 = (Hours-2)*48

Hours*(1/2) = Hours - 2
Hours = 4.

Two hours for John; Martina will have been biking for 4 hours.
